   One night only in Beaufort~ "Becoming Harriet Tubman" written by and starring Natalie Daise ~ produced by the Palmetto Theater Xperiment. Before heading to the stage at Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston, Daise will perform her one woman show for her hometown, in the black box theater at ARTworks in Beaufort Town Center, Saturday, May 19 at 7:30pm.

3. Artist Showcase 2012

   Artist Showcase 2012 hosted in historic downtown Beaufort, SC, is the 10th annual event open to the public to exhibit and to attend the celebration of local and visiting artists.

   Space is available for 20 artists with application due by April 1.Original and print work is welcomed in a range of media to include paintings, folk art, basket weaving and mixed media. The show is free to the public, and all work will be for sale.
   
   The objective of the show is to promote the arts as a viable and important economic contribution to life in the Lowcountry and to support emerging and professional artists in pursuing their artistic goals and developing their talents.    Joshua Walden, Esquire, of the Center for Heirs Property Preservation, will present a public seminar to be held on May 29, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at Whale Branch Early College High School, 169 Detour Road, Seabrook SC 29940.

   The seminar will cover all aspects of heirs property with regard to ownership and development issues and will allow citizens the opportunity to ask questions of the Center's attorney regarding their heirs property.

6. Lifeguarding Course

   Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services will hold an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course at the Beaufort Indoor Swimming Pool, 35 Youmans Drive, Beaufort, SC 29902.

   Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services will hold an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course at the Beaufort Indoor Swimming Pool, 35 Youmans Drive, Beaufort, SC 29902.

   
   

   Classes are scheduled June 8 & 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and June 11 & 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The registration fee is $160, which includes all class materials. Those who successfully complete the class will receive certification for American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, AED and First aid.

   
   

   Participants must be at least 15 years of age by June 4, 2012, and take a pre-requisite swim assessment before being accepted into the class. To qualify, a person must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using the front crawl and breaststroke; swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound object from the bottom of the pool, swim 20 yards with the object and exit the pool without using the steps within 1 minute and 40 seconds; and tread water with no hands for 2 minutes.

   
   

   The pre-requisite swim assessment will be conducted Monday, June 4, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Beaufort Indoor Swimming Pool. Only the first 12 participants that pass the assessment will be eligible for entry into the class due to space limitation.
