Each year, the SC Black Farmers Coalition hosts a conference which is designed to provide important information, technical assistance, farming skills workshops, on-site tours and other networking resources to new and established Black farmers across the state in order to build the capacity of their farms to be more profitable and sustainable across generations.
In 2023, the Coalition is again bringing its conference back to historic Penn Center on St. Helena Island.
“SCBFCC23 will be held on the campus of Historic Penn Center, Inc. on St. Helena Island, a truly beautiful place to visit,” the Coalition said.
“In addition to [visiting] some of the local farm sites on our conference agenda, you should make the most of your time by planning to visit the beaches, restaurants and museums that help make the Island one of the top destinations in the SC Lowcountry.”
The annual conference hosts speakers and presenters, as well as workshops on a variety of important topics including insurance and risk management to marketing and soil health; all designed to provide more information on what your farm business needs to thrive.
The conference also hosts several events including a Farmer’s Market, Food Trucks, a Seed Swap, Farmer Health & Wellness, and an Awards & Networking Reception.
The dates for the conference at Penn Center are March 4th & 5th, 2023.
